Out in the Wild

2025

1 SEASON, 1 EPISODE

For centuries, stories about the natural world have been filtered through human assumptions about gender, sexuality, and what is considered “normal.” In Out in the Wild, nonbinary wildlife filmmaker and host Angel Morris embarks on a global journey to uncover the astonishing diversity of queerness in nature — from sex-changing fish and same-sex animal pairings to behaviors that challenge long-held cultural beliefs about the wild. Guided by scientists, conservationists, and local experts, Angel explores how these traits are not rare exceptions, but essential threads woven throughout the fabric of life on Earth. Blending adventure, wildlife cinematography, science, and deeply personal storytelling, the series examines the ways culture, colonialism, and media have shaped our understanding of nature, while revealing a world far more complex and expansive than many have been taught to see. Through Angel’s perspective as a queer wildlife filmmaker, Out in the Wild becomes both a celebration of biodiversity and an exploration of belonging, visibility, and the power of seeing ourselves reflected in the natural world.
