San Diego: America's Wildest City

2024

53 MINUTES

San Diego is known for its beaches, sunshine, and sprawling suburbs — but beneath the surface lies one of the richest ecosystems in North America. San Diego: America’s Wildest City reveals the astonishing wildlife thriving within the boundaries of one of the country’s largest urban regions, where bobcats roam canyon edges, hummingbirds crowd backyard feeders, and orcas hunt just beyond the coastline. Set at the crossroads of desert, mountains, ocean, and international borderlands, the film explores how animals adapt to a landscape profoundly reshaped by human activity. Through intimate wildlife stories and breathtaking natural history cinematography, America’s Wildest City is both a celebration of San Diego’s hidden biodiversity and a reflection on the complex relationship between people and the wild world living alongside them. As urban development continues to transform the region, the film asks what it will take to preserve one of America’s most extraordinary ecological treasures for generations to come.
